MIAC SWIMMING AND DIVING CHAMPIONSHIP DAY 3 RECAP

MINNEAPOLIS - The Gustavus Adolphus College men and women claimed MIAC Swimming and Diving Championships on Saturday night at the University of Minnesota Aquatics Center. The Gustie women defended their team title from a year ago, notching the program's fourth conference championship. The men's team has won six of the last seven crowns and 21 overall.

WOMEN
Carleton's Kate Alexander repeated as the women's Swimmer of the Year. Tonight, she successfully defended her 200 breaststroke title, doing so in meet record time 2:22.75. It was her third individual crown of the championships.

St. Olaf's Alyssa Germeroth swept the diving competition at this year's meet, adding the 1-meter title to her 3-meter crown from last night. Her score of 372.75 edged Concordia's Lauren Trudeau by 0.75 points. Germeroth was named Diver of the Year.

St. Olaf's Jen Marzolf took top honors in the 1650 freestyle and the 200 butterfly.

Carleton's Kale Zicafoose notched her first individual crown in the 200 backstroke with a "B" cut time of 2:07.38.

St. Thomas' Becca Ney won her third event of the championships, adding the 100 freestyle title to her 50 freestyle and 100 backstroke crown.

Carleton concluded the meet with the victory in the 400 freestyle relay.

Carleton College's Brooke Larsen and St. Thomas' Tom Hodgson were voted the Women's Swimming Co-Coach of the Year. Gabe Kortuem guides the St. Olaf and Carleton diving teams and was selected the Diving Coach of the Year.

MEN

Carleton's Ted Marschall was named the men's 2008 Swimmer of the Year. He picked up his third individual title of the weekend in this evening's competition, pulling away from the field in the 200 breaststroke with a time of 2:03.28, just shy of his meet record time set in the morning preliminaries.

Carleton's John Knapp rallied for the victory in the 3-meter diving competition. Teammate Eric Brener finished third. Knapp and Saint John's Marcus Rien were selected as Co-Divers of the Year.

Gustavus sophomore Skylar Davis defended his title in the 1650 freestyle, doing so with a conference meet record and NCAA automatic qualifying 15:51.23.

Nathan Young of Macalester added the 200 backstroke title to his crown in the 100-yard event on Friday.

St. Olaf's Jake Koch broke the meet record with an "A" cut time of 45.33 in winning the 100 freestyle.

Gustavus Ben Hanson took top honors in the 200 butterfly with an "A" cut time of 1:51.49. The Gusties placed four swimmers among the top six in the event.

Gustavus finished the night's competition with the victory in the 400 freestyle relay.

St. Thomas' Tom Hodgson was voted the Men's Swimming Coach of the Year. Gabe Kortuem guides the St. Olaf and Carleton diving teams and was selected the Diving Coach of the Year.
